Course overview
Professionals are often judged not only by the quality of their work but by how clearly they explain it, document decisions, handle difficult conversations, and gain agreement from colleagues. Ambiguous emails create rework, poorly structured updates delay decisions, and unprepared meetings leave actions unclear. This five-day course addresses these practical workplace problems by strengthening the communication habits needed to make information understandable, credible, and actionable across teams, managers, customers, and stakeholders.
Participants learn to analyse an audience before communicating, structure messages using purpose-led frameworks, write concise business emails and reports, and present recommendations with supporting evidence. The course covers active listening, questioning techniques, non-verbal communication, meeting facilitation, constructive feedback, and communication during disagreement. Participants practise adapting the same message for senior leaders, technical colleagues, and non-specialist audiences, while using plain-language principles to reduce misunderstanding and improve response quality.
Delivery combines instructor demonstrations, individual writing drills, role-played conversations, group critique, and realistic workplace cases. Participants bring examples of routine communications from their role, such as emails, status updates, meeting agendas, or briefing notes, and improve them during facilitated workshops. They leave with a personal Communication Improvement Plan, a reusable message-planning template, a meeting action-tracking format, and revised examples of their own workplace communications that can be applied immediately.
The course suits professionals who already communicate regularly at work but need a more consistent method for writing, presenting, listening, and managing communication with different stakeholders. It is particularly valuable for employees moving into coordination, supervisory, client-facing, project, or cross-functional responsibilities.

Target competencies
Who should attend
- Project Coordinators — who must keep contributors aligned through clear updates, meetings, and action tracking
- Team Leaders and Supervisors — who need to give direction, feedback, and performance messages consistently
- Business Analysts — who translate stakeholder needs into clear requirements, findings, and recommendations
- Customer Service and Client-Facing Professionals — who need to manage expectations and resolve issues professionally
- Technical Specialists — who must explain complex information to non-technical decision-makers
- Aspiring Managers — who need a practical communication method before taking on people or cross-functional leadership
Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have regular workplace communication experience, including writing emails, attending meetings, and discussing work with colleagues, customers, or managers. They should be comfortable using standard office applications to create and edit documents and presentations, particularly Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint or equivalent tools. No formal communications qualification, public-speaking background, personality assessment, or prior management experience is required. This is a fundamentals course in method and practice, not a remedial language course. Complete beginners to structured communication can attend, but should expect frequent writing, role-play, peer feedback, and revision exercises throughout the week.
Training methodology
The instructor uses short, focused teaching segments followed by practice on realistic communication tasks: rewriting unclear emails, preparing executive briefings, conducting listening drills, facilitating meetings, and responding to difficult feedback scenarios. Participants work individually and in small groups, receiving structured peer and instructor feedback against clear criteria. Cases reflect cross-functional, customer-facing, and supervisory situations rather than abstract communication theory. Each day includes a practical output, and the final session converts learning into an individual application plan linked to current workplace communications and stakeholder relationships.
