Course overview
Banking leaders are expected to improve service, revenue, control discipline and employee engagement at the same time. Branch, operations, credit, digital and relationship-management teams work under intense regulatory scrutiny, changing customer expectations and tight performance targets. This course helps experienced banking professionals lead teams through these competing demands without weakening conduct standards, risk ownership or customer outcomes.
Participants learn how to translate bank strategy, risk appetite and customer commitments into clear team priorities. They practise setting measurable service, productivity, quality and control objectives; using performance dashboards; running structured one-to-ones; coaching underperformance; handling conduct concerns; and leading cross-functional improvement work. The course also addresses decision-making under pressure, delegation in controlled environments, stakeholder management with Risk and Compliance, and communication during operational change.
Teaching is built around realistic banking scenarios, including missed service-level agreements, rising complaints, control failures, branch performance gaps, credit-processing backlogs and resistance to a digital process rollout. Participants use practical tools including a balanced team scorecard, RACI matrix, coaching plan, risk-and-performance dashboard and escalation framework. By the end of the week, each participant produces a 90-day Banking Team Performance Action Plan for a current team or business unit, ready to review with their manager.
The course is designed for intermediate to advanced professionals who already supervise staff, lead projects or influence banking operations. It is particularly valuable where managers must deliver commercial and service results while demonstrating sound judgement, fair treatment of customers and reliable control execution.

- Branch Managers — who must improve sales, service and control performance across frontline teams
- Banking Operations Managers — who manage processing volumes, service-level agreements, errors and backlogs
- Relationship Management Team Leaders — who need consistent client coverage, conduct and revenue discipline
- Credit Operations Supervisors — who balance turnaround times with underwriting quality and escalation controls
- Contact Centre Managers — who lead customer-facing teams against quality, complaints and productivity measures
- Digital Banking and Transformation Leads — who need to secure adoption of new processes across regulated teams
Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have experience supervising employees, leading workstreams or influencing team performance in a bank, credit institution, payments business or closely regulated financial-services environment. They should understand basic banking terms such as customer outcomes, operational risk, controls, service-level agreements, complaints and escalation. Familiarity with their organisation’s performance-review process and access to a current team challenge will help them apply the course immediately. No prior formal leadership qualification, specialist HR training, coding knowledge or advanced data-analysis capability is required. Participants will work with supplied Excel-based templates and do not need to build dashboards from scratch.
Training methodology
The five days combine instructor-led banking leadership briefings with facilitated analysis of operational and frontline cases. Participants work in small groups to interpret scorecards, identify root causes behind performance gaps, map responsibilities using RACI and rehearse coaching and escalation conversations. Case material reflects branch, contact-centre, credit and operations settings rather than generic management examples. Each day adds a component to an individual 90-day Banking Team Performance Action Plan. On the final day, participants test their plans through peer challenge and instructor feedback against business, customer and control criteria.
