Course overview
Business messages often fail not because the information is wrong, but because the audience cannot find the point, interpret the data, or act on the request. Managers, clients and internal teams are routinely asked to absorb crowded slides, inconsistent reports, text-heavy process guides and unbranded announcements. This course helps professionals turn complex business content into clear, credible visual communication using Canva, while retaining the judgement required for corporate audiences, brand governance and accessible design.
Participants learn to plan visual messages before opening a template, define audience needs, establish hierarchy, and select formats that fit a business decision or action. The course covers Canva’s advanced editing, layout, chart, presentation, video and collaboration functions; Brand Kit and template governance; data storytelling; visualising processes; accessibility checks; and export preparation for print, PDF, presentation and digital channels. Participants practise converting source material such as project updates, policy content, survey results and business cases into concise visual assets with a clear call to action.
Delivery combines instructor demonstrations, guided Canva builds, visual critique sessions and workplace-based case exercises. Participants receive structured feedback on message clarity, brand alignment, layout, accessibility and audience suitability. By the end of the week, each participant produces a reusable Visual Communication Toolkit: a branded Canva template set, a short presentation or report section, a data visual, an internal communication asset, and a documented workflow for reviewing and publishing materials.
The course is suited to experienced business professionals who already prepare presentations, reports or communications and need a reliable method for producing stronger visual material without relying on a specialist design team. It is particularly valuable where teams need faster, more consistent production of stakeholder-facing content.

Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should be comfortable using a web browser, managing files, and preparing routine business content such as slides, documents, reports or email communications. They should understand their organisation’s basic brand requirements, such as approved logos, colours, fonts and tone of voice, or be able to obtain these during the course. Prior Canva experience is helpful because the course moves quickly into templates, collaboration and advanced asset production, but expert design knowledge is not required. Participants do not need Adobe Creative Cloud, illustration skills, coding knowledge or formal graphic-design training.
Training methodology
The course is delivered through instructor-led visual communication clinics, live Canva demonstrations and progressive hands-on builds. Participants work from realistic business briefs, including a project update, data-led recommendation, policy or process communication, and internal campaign asset. Short design critiques use agreed criteria for hierarchy, brand fit, accessibility and actionability rather than personal preference. Group review sessions simulate stakeholder feedback and approval cycles. On the final day, participants refine their own workplace toolkit and create an application plan identifying the first communications, templates and review practices they will implement.
