Course overview
Enterprise account executives rarely lose strategic deals because they cannot explain product features. They lose when an opportunity is qualified too loosely, mapped around a single contact, priced before value is agreed, or advanced without a defensible path through procurement, security, finance and executive approval. This five-day course gives experienced sellers a repeatable way to build, inspect and execute a deal strategy for complex enterprise opportunities with long sales cycles, multiple buying roles and material commercial risk.
Participants learn to apply MEDDICC-based qualification, build account and stakeholder maps, identify mobilisers and detractors, quantify the cost of inaction, and create a mutual action plan that reflects the customer’s actual decision process. They practise shaping deal hypotheses, running executive discovery, developing differentiated business cases, managing competitive threats, and constructing negotiation positions that protect value while remaining commercially credible. The course also addresses forecasting discipline, deal review preparation and escalation choices for opportunities that have stalled or changed shape.
Teaching combines instructor-led deal strategy sessions with enterprise sales cases, peer deal inspections, role-played customer meetings and practical workshops. Participants bring one active enterprise opportunity, or work from a supplied case, and progressively build an account strategy pack: qualification scorecard, stakeholder map, value case, competitive plan, mutual action plan, risk register and executive deal-review brief. They leave with a usable playbook for the live deal, a structured cadence for reviewing it with managers and a certificate of completion.
The course is designed for enterprise account executives who already manage named accounts or complex opportunities and need to improve win probability, deal quality and forecast reliability. It is also valuable for senior sellers moving from transactional or mid-market sales into enterprise roles where consensus, commercial governance and executive sponsorship determine outcomes.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Apply a MEDDICC qualification scorecard to assess an enterprise opportunity and expose evidence gaps
- Create a stakeholder map that identifies economic buyers, champions, mobilisers, blockers and influence paths
- Quantify a customer value hypothesis using baseline metrics, cost-of-inaction calculations and business-case assumptions
- Build a mutual action plan aligned to buying stages, approval gates, owners and target dates
- Develop a competitive deal strategy using win themes, differentiation evidence and displacement actions
- Prepare an executive discovery agenda that tests strategic priorities, decision criteria and political risk
- Construct a negotiation plan with concessions, trading variables, walk-away positions and approval limits
- Produce an executive deal-review brief containing forecast rationale, risks, next actions and leadership asks
Benefits of attending
For you
- Gain a defensible framework for leading enterprise opportunities rather than relying on relationship strength alone
- Build confidence presenting deal strategy, forecast evidence and escalation requests to sales leadership
- Improve credibility with senior customer stakeholders by framing conversations around measurable business outcomes
- Develop reusable account-planning and deal-review artefacts for larger named-account roles
- Strengthen readiness for strategic account, sales leadership or complex-deal specialist responsibilities
For your organisation
- Improve forecast accuracy by requiring evidence-based qualification and explicit close-plan milestones
- Reduce late-stage deal slippage through earlier identification of stakeholder, procurement and competitive risks
- Create more consistent deal reviews using common scorecards, risk registers and leadership escalation criteria
- Protect commercial value by planning concession trades and negotiation boundaries before procurement engagement
- Increase win quality by linking proposals to verified customer outcomes, decision criteria and buying-process evidence
Target competencies
Who should attend
- Enterprise Account Executives — who must orchestrate complex, high-value opportunities across multiple buying groups
- Strategic Account Managers — who need to expand and protect revenue within named enterprise accounts
- Senior Account Executives — who are moving from mid-market cycles into consensus-led enterprise selling
- Global Account Managers — who coordinate stakeholders, commercial terms and account plans across regions
- Sales Directors — who need a common method for inspecting pipeline quality and coaching critical deals
- Sales Engineers — who contribute technical validation and need to connect solution evidence to the deal strategy
Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have experience managing B2B sales opportunities and be comfortable discussing discovery, qualification, pipeline stages, account plans and forecast categories. They should ideally bring a current enterprise opportunity involving several stakeholders, although a detailed case study can be used instead. Familiarity with a CRM such as Salesforce Sales Cloud and basic spreadsheet use in Microsoft Excel will help when documenting account data and value assumptions. No formal sales methodology certification, finance qualification, advanced negotiation training or specialist software administration knowledge is required. This is not a foundation course for people with no prior sales-cycle experience.
Training methodology
The instructor uses short, evidence-led teaching segments to introduce each deal strategy component, then moves participants into application. Teams inspect realistic enterprise cases involving executive sponsors, security reviews, procurement pressure and competitors; they also practise discovery and deal-review conversations through structured role plays. Participants use Salesforce-style opportunity data, Excel value models and Miro stakeholder maps to test assumptions visibly. Each day adds a section to an individual active-deal strategy pack. On day five, participants present their plan in a leadership review simulation and define immediate actions for use on the job.
