Course overview
Retail teams are expected to connect store, ecommerce, mobile, loyalty, service and fulfilment journeys while protecting margin and customer trust. Yet many transformation initiatives remain a collection of disconnected pilots: a new app without store adoption, personalisation without usable customer data, click-and-collect without clear ownership, or dashboards that report activity rather than customer and commercial outcomes. This course equips retail professionals to turn digital investment into measurable improvements in conversion, basket value, repeat purchase, fulfilment performance and service consistency.
Participants examine how leading retailers design an omnichannel customer experience operating model, prioritise digital initiatives and use data responsibly. They learn to map end-to-end journeys, identify moments that cause abandonment or friction, define customer and business metrics, assess customer-data readiness, and design practical use cases for personalisation, clienteling, digital service and fulfilment. The programme uses retail-specific methods including journey blueprints, value-versus-feasibility prioritisation, KPI trees, experimentation backlogs and transformation roadmaps.
Instruction combines expert-led retail examples with facilitated workshops using scenarios across fashion, grocery, specialty and omnichannel retail. Participants work with sample data and artefacts modelled on Google Analytics 4, Power BI, Salesforce Commerce Cloud and Adobe Experience Platform. By the end of the week, each participant produces a retail digital customer experience transformation case: a current-state journey diagnosis, prioritised initiative portfolio, measurement framework, delivery governance outline and 90-day action plan that can be adapted for their own business.
The course is designed for managers and specialists who influence customer experience, ecommerce, stores, loyalty, marketing, operations, technology or data decisions. It is especially valuable where teams need a shared way to evaluate digital opportunities before committing budget, suppliers or delivery capacity.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Map an end-to-end retail customer journey across store, ecommerce, mobile, service and fulfilment touchpoints
- Diagnose journey friction using behavioural, operational and voice-of-customer evidence
- Build a retail KPI tree linking customer experience measures to conversion, margin, retention and fulfilment outcomes
- Define customer-data requirements for consented segmentation, identity resolution and personalisation use cases
- Prioritise a digital initiative portfolio using value, feasibility, dependency and risk scoring
- Design an omnichannel experimentation backlog with hypotheses, control measures and success thresholds
- Create a transformation operating model covering ownership, governance, store adoption and supplier accountability
- Produce a 90-day retail customer experience transformation roadmap with milestones, metrics and decision gates
Benefits of attending
For you
- Gain a repeatable method for turning retail customer pain points into funded digital initiatives
- Build credibility in cross-functional discussions with store, ecommerce, data and technology leaders
- Learn to challenge vanity metrics and specify customer experience measures linked to commercial performance

- Reduces the risk of isolated channel projects that create inconsistent store, ecommerce and service experiences
- Establishes common KPI definitions across customer experience, trading, operations and technology teams
- Strengthens governance for customer data, consent, personalisation and third-party platform decisions
- Creates actionable transformation roadmaps that can move from workshop output to funded delivery planning
Target competencies
Who should attend
- Retail Customer Experience Managers — who need to connect digital and physical journeys around measurable customer outcomes
- Ecommerce Managers — who must improve conversion, merchandising, personalisation and fulfilment without creating channel conflict
- Retail Digital Transformation Managers — who need a structured way to prioritise initiatives, dependencies and investment cases
- Store Operations Managers — who must make click-and-collect, returns, assisted selling and digital service workable for frontline teams
- CRM and Loyalty Managers — who need to convert consented customer data into relevant lifecycle and loyalty experiences
- Retail Data and Technology Product Owners — who translate business journeys into platform, integration and measurement requirements
Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have working experience in a retail, ecommerce, customer experience, marketing, store operations, technology or data role, and understand basic retail measures such as conversion rate, average transaction value, repeat purchase and fulfilment performance. Familiarity with a customer journey map, web analytics dashboard or CRM campaign process is useful but not essential. Bring a laptop capable of accessing browser-based workshop materials and spreadsheets. The course does not require coding, SQL, data-science expertise, platform administration rights or prior hands-on use of Google Analytics 4, Power BI, Salesforce Commerce Cloud or Adobe Experience Platform.
Training methodology
The five-day programme alternates focused instructor-led sessions with retail case analysis, individual diagnostics and team design workshops. Participants use journey-mapping templates, KPI-tree worksheets, initiative-scoring matrices and roadmap canvases to solve an omnichannel retail scenario. Guided demonstrations show how GA4 event data, Power BI dashboards, Salesforce Commerce Cloud capabilities and Adobe Experience Platform profiles inform decisions without requiring platform administration. Daily peer review strengthens each artefact, and the final session converts the work into an implementation-ready 90-day plan.
