Course overview

Digital transformation programmes often move faster than the governance arrangements intended to control them. Cloud migrations, data platforms, automation initiatives and customer-facing digital products can create unclear decision rights, duplicated controls, unmanaged third-party dependencies and benefits that cannot be demonstrated to executive sponsors. This course addresses the practical challenge of applying COBIT 2019 to govern digital change without creating a separate, disconnected compliance structure.

Participants learn to use the COBIT 2019 Governance System and Framework to translate enterprise strategy into governance objectives, design factors, target capability levels, performance measures and improvement priorities. The course examines how the COBIT domains and objectives support transformation portfolios, product operating models, data governance, cybersecurity, service management and supplier oversight. Participants practise tailoring COBIT rather than applying every objective uniformly, using the COBIT Design Toolkit to define a governance system that fits organisational context, risk appetite and transformation ambitions.

Delivery combines instructor-led explanation with worked digital transformation cases, group design workshops and structured review of governance artefacts. Participants build a COBIT-based Digital Transformation Governance Blueprint for a realistic or employer-based initiative, including enterprise goals, selected governance and management objectives, RACI decision rights, metrics, capability targets, risk responses and a phased implementation roadmap. The blueprint provides a practical document that can be refined with sponsors, risk teams and delivery leaders after the course.

This intermediate-to-advanced course is suited to professionals responsible for governing, assuring or enabling digital change across IT, data, risk and business functions. Requirements and prerequisites

Participants should have practical experience in IT management, digital transformation delivery, enterprise architecture, risk, audit, service management or data governance. Familiarity with COBIT, ITIL, ISO standards or GRC tools is helpful but not required. No programming, formal audit qualification or prior COBIT certification is needed. Training methodology

The five-day programme uses concise instructor-led COBIT 2019 briefings followed by application workshops built around a digital transformation case. Participants map enterprise goals, apply design factors, select governance objectives, define responsibility assignments and assess capability gaps using structured templates. Small groups compare alternative governance designs for cloud, data and product-led operating models, then defend their choices against executive, risk and audit questions. Each day adds to an individual or team Digital Transformation Governance Blueprint, culminating in a reviewed implementation roadmap and action plan.
