Course overview
Healthcare organisations must show that staff, contractors and agency workers have completed the right training, understood critical policies, and can apply them in practice. Learning and Development teams are often expected to provide audit-ready evidence across safeguarding, infection prevention, information governance, medicines safety, equality, incident reporting and local mandatory training requirements—while managing expired certifications, inconsistent records and changing guidance. This course addresses the operational gap between delivering courses and running a defensible compliance learning system.
Participants learn how to translate regulatory and organisational obligations into role-based learning requirements, annual training matrices and measurable competence pathways. They practise conducting compliance learning needs analyses, setting renewal rules, designing assessments, selecting evidence of completion and competence, and reporting exceptions to managers. The course covers LMS configuration principles, SCORM and xAPI learning records, accessibility requirements, data protection in learner records, audit sampling and corrective-action planning. Participants also learn to distinguish attendance, knowledge assessment, observed competence and workplace assurance.
Teaching combines healthcare cases, worked templates, facilitated peer review and practical system-design exercises. Throughout the week, participants build a Healthcare Compliance Learning Control Pack for their own service or a realistic case organisation. The pack includes a role-based training matrix, compliance requirements register, assessment plan, reporting dashboard specification, audit trail checklist and 90-day implementation roadmap. This enables attendees to return with a structured approach that can be adapted for their trust, hospital group, care provider, clinic or healthcare support function.
The course is designed for experienced L&D, HR, quality and governance professionals who already support workforce learning and now need stronger control over compliance evidence, learning assurance and audit readiness.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Map healthcare regulatory obligations to role-based learning requirements using a compliance requirements register
- Build a mandatory and statutory training matrix with renewal periods, target populations and escalation rules
- Differentiate attendance, completion, knowledge, competence and workplace assurance evidence
- Design auditable assessments using question banks, pass thresholds, retake controls and version records
- Configure an LMS evidence model using learner profiles, completion statuses, expiry dates and exception reports
- Create a compliance dashboard specification with denominator rules, overdue measures and risk indicators
- Conduct an audit sample of learning records and document corrective actions against identified gaps
- Produce a 90-day compliance learning improvement plan with owners, milestones and governance checkpoints
Benefits of attending
For you
- Gain a repeatable method for converting healthcare obligations into practical role-based training requirements
- Build credibility with quality, governance and clinical leaders by using audit-ready learning evidence
- Learn to challenge misleading completion statistics and explain the difference between completion and competence
- Leave with templates that strengthen applications for healthcare L&D, compliance and workforce assurance roles
- Develop confidence in reviewing LMS reports, identifying record-quality weaknesses and escalating compliance risk
For your organisation
- Creates more consistent mandatory-training matrices across departments, job families and worker types
- Reduces audit risk by improving the traceability of learner completion, assessment and competence evidence
- Improves management decisions through clearer overdue, exemption, expiry and exception reporting
- Helps target learning investment at material compliance gaps instead of repeatedly assigning broad courses
- Establishes a practical corrective-action process for incomplete records, failed assessments and lapsed certifications
Target competencies
Who should attend
- Learning and Development Managers — who own mandatory training provision and must demonstrate workforce compliance
- Healthcare Training Managers — who coordinate statutory, mandatory and role-specific learning across clinical services
- HR Managers and HR Business Partners — who need reliable training records for workforce assurance and performance processes
- Quality and Governance Managers — who prepare evidence for inspections, internal audits and corrective-action reviews
- LMS Administrators — who configure learner records, renewal rules and management reports for healthcare users
- Clinical Educators — who design and assure competence-based learning for regulated clinical roles
Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have practical experience supporting employee learning, mandatory training, workforce reporting or compliance activity in a healthcare setting. They should understand basic L&D terms such as learning objectives, assessments, completion records and training needs analysis, and be comfortable working with spreadsheets and reports. Familiarity with an LMS, such as Moodle Workplace, Cornerstone or a local healthcare learning platform, is useful but not essential. Participants do not need to be lawyers, clinical specialists, instructional designers or system administrators. The course explains how to work with local regulatory, quality and information-governance colleagues rather than interpret legislation independently.
Training methodology
Instructor-led sessions use realistic healthcare workforce scenarios, including inspection preparation, overdue mandatory training and inconsistent competence records. Participants work with training matrices, requirements registers, LMS report extracts and audit checklists rather than generic learning examples. Small groups analyse evidence gaps, design controls and defend their reporting choices to a mock governance panel. Facilitators provide structured feedback on each participant’s developing Healthcare Compliance Learning Control Pack. The final session converts that pack into a prioritised 90-day implementation plan for the participant’s own organisation or service area.
