Manhattan Active Warehouse Management is most valuable when warehouse teams can translate operational priorities into disciplined system execution: receiving inventory accurately, controlling directed work, protecting stock integrity, managing exceptions, and releasing orders at the right time. Many sites have the platform in place but still rely on manual workarounds, inconsistent RF practices, or supervisor knowledge to resolve short picks, damaged stock, replenishment gaps, and shipment holds. This course helps experienced warehouse professionals use Manhattan Active WM to make those decisions traceable, repeatable, and measurable across shifts.
Participants work through the operational workflows that drive daily warehouse performance in Manhattan Active WM, including inbound appointment and receipt processing, quality and disposition decisions, putaway and replenishment logic, inventory adjustments and cycle counting, outbound waving, allocation, picking, packing, shipping, and exception management. They learn how to interpret task and inventory statuses, use work queues and RF-directed transactions, investigate inventory discrepancies, and apply operational controls without bypassing system records. The course also addresses the connection points between warehouse execution, yard activity, labor planning, and enterprise order management.
Instruction combines guided system demonstrations with scenario-based exercises using realistic warehouse data. Participants complete RF and desktop transactions, diagnose operational failures, evaluate work and inventory reports, and make release and recovery decisions under changing volume conditions. Each participant leaves with a Manhattan Active WM operations playbook: a practical set of process maps, exception-resolution steps, KPI definitions, and a 30-day workplace application plan tailored to their facility or operating model.

Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have at least one year of warehouse, distribution centre, inventory control, or fulfilment operations experience and understand core concepts such as receiving, putaway, replenishment, picking, packing, shipping, cycle counting, and inventory adjustments. Familiarity with RF scanning workflows and warehouse KPIs such as inventory accuracy, order cycle time, pick rate, and dock-to-stock time is expected. Prior use of Manhattan Active WM is helpful but not essential; attendees should be comfortable navigating browser-based business applications. Programming, database administration, API development, and Manhattan configuration experience are not required for this operations-focused course.
Training methodology
The course is delivered through instructor-led operational walkthroughs, guided Manhattan Active WM demonstrations, and hands-on transactions in a training environment. Participants work in small teams on a multi-day distribution centre case, progressing from inbound receipts and putaway through inventory control, wave release, picking, and shipment confirmation. Facilitated reviews focus on the status changes, task records, and reports that explain each operational outcome. On the final day, participants convert their case findings into a site application plan with priority actions, controls, owners, and measures.

Day 1: Manhattan Active WM operational control
- Manhattan Active WM navigation, menus, work queues, and operational dashboards
- Warehouse organisational structure: facilities, areas, zones, locations, and work groups
- Item, unit of measure, packaging, lot, serial, and inventory attribute concepts
- Inventory status, allocation status, task status, and order status interpretation
- RF-directed work principles and desktop versus mobile transaction roles
- Operational audit trails, transaction history, and user accountability
- Warehouse KPI baseline measures for service, productivity, inventory, and flow
Workshop: Participants trace a customer order from available inventory through task creation and identify the system statuses that determine whether it can ship.
Day 2: Inbound, putaway, and inventory integrity
- Inbound appointment, purchase order, and advance shipment notice processing
- RF receiving workflows for pallet, case, and each-level inventory
- Overage, shortage, damage, quality hold, and disposition handling
- Directed putaway logic using location capacity, item attributes, and storage rules
- License plate and GS1 SSCC identification for warehouse traceability
- Cycle count planning, count execution, recounts, and inventory adjustment controls
- Inventory discrepancy investigation using transaction and location history
Workshop: Participants receive a mixed inbound load, process damages and quantity variances, complete directed putaway, and produce an inventory discrepancy investigation record.
Day 3: Replenishment and outbound fulfilment
- Forward pick location management and reserve-to-pick replenishment triggers
- Directed replenishment task creation, prioritisation, and confirmation
- Order import, order status monitoring, and allocation readiness checks
- Wave planning using ship dates, carrier cut-offs, order priority, and capacity

- Picking methods: discrete, batch, cluster, zone, and cart-based execution
- Short-pick recovery, substitute inventory decisions, and task exception handling
Workshop: Participants plan and release an outbound wave, address a replenishment shortage and short pick, and document the operational recovery decisions.
Day 4: Packing, shipping, yard, and labour execution
- Pack station controls, cartonisation concepts, and packing verification
- Shipment consolidation, staging, loading, and shipment confirmation
- Carrier service selection, manifest readiness, and shipping document controls
- Dock door, trailer, and appointment visibility in Manhattan Active Yard Management
- Cross-dock and flow-through handling for time-sensitive inventory
- Labour standards, work measurement, and productivity visibility in Manhattan Active Labor Management
- Shift handover routines, escalation paths, and end-of-day operational reconciliation
Workshop: Participants manage a carrier cut-off scenario by prioritising packed orders, resolving staging exceptions, assigning dock activity, and preparing a shift handover report.
Day 5: Exception leadership and operational improvement
- Exception taxonomy for inbound, inventory, replenishment, picking, and shipping failures
- Root-cause analysis using five whys, transaction history, and process observation
- Warehouse performance dashboard interpretation and KPI trend analysis
- Control points for inventory adjustments, holds, overrides, and manual interventions
