Course overview
Warehouse supervisors are expected to maintain service levels while managing fluctuating order volumes, labour shortages, dock congestion, inventory exceptions and equipment constraints. Many daily decisions are made from instinct or incomplete reports, resulting in rushed overtime, missed cut-offs, uneven workload distribution and recurring bottlenecks. This course equips supervisors to turn operational data, demand signals and shift capacity into workable daily and weekly warehouse plans that can be communicated clearly and adjusted with control.
Participants learn to translate order forecasts and inbound schedules into labour, space, equipment and dock requirements. They use workload profiling, standard times, capacity calculations, wave planning, slotting principles, scheduling boards and KPI dashboards to plan receiving, put-away, replenishment, picking, packing and dispatch. The course also covers exception management, escalation thresholds, root-cause analysis and structured daily management routines. Participants gain practical methods for balancing productivity, safety, inventory accuracy and customer cut-off commitments rather than optimising one measure at the expense of another.
Instruction combines supervisor-led planning scenarios, warehouse data exercises, visual management workshops and peer review of operational decisions. Participants work with realistic order, labour and dock data in Excel and dashboard formats, then test plans against disruptions such as late inbound vehicles, absenteeism, urgent orders and system outages. Each participant leaves with a completed warehouse operations planning pack: a capacity plan, shift labour plan, daily control board, escalation matrix, KPI set and 30-day implementation plan for their own operation.
The programme is designed for experienced warehouse team leaders and supervisors moving into broader operational planning responsibility, as well as managers who need consistent planning disciplines across shifts or sites.

Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have at least one year of warehouse, distribution centre or fulfilment operations experience and understand the basic flow of receiving, put-away, replenishment, picking, packing and dispatch. Familiarity with common warehouse KPIs such as lines picked per hour, order accuracy, dock-to-stock time and on-time dispatch is assumed. Participants should be comfortable reading operational reports and performing basic spreadsheet calculations, including totals, percentages and simple formulas. Prior use of a WMS is helpful but not essential. No prior experience with Power BI, formal operations research, Lean certification or advanced Excel functions is required.
Training methodology
The programme uses instructor-led workshops built around a simulated multi-shift distribution centre. Short teaching sessions introduce each planning method, followed by spreadsheet-based calculations, planning-board design and small-group decisions using changing order, labour and inbound data. Participants review WMS-style reports, build capacity and staffing plans, and challenge each other’s response to operational exceptions. Daily debriefs connect decisions to service, cost, safety and inventory outcomes. On the final day, each participant converts the course tools into a site-specific 30-day implementation plan with measurable actions and review points.
