Course overview

Inventory accuracy is a direct control on warehouse service, working capital and customer trust. When receipt discrepancies, unconfirmed movements, incorrect locations or delayed cycle counts accumulate in Oracle WMS Cloud, teams spend time searching for stock, expediting replenishment and explaining variances rather than fulfilling orders. This course equips warehouse professionals to use Oracle WMS Cloud inventory controls as operating disciplines: maintaining reliable on-hand balances, managing status-controlled stock, investigating exceptions and closing count variances with an auditable record.

Across five instructor-led days, participants configure and execute the inventory processes that govern stock from inbound receipt through storage, replenishment, counting, adjustment and shipment. They learn to work with inventory attributes, locations, LPNs, item and lot controls, inventory statuses, task-based movement, directed cycle counts and physical inventory workflows. Practical sessions cover discrepancy research, adjustment approval logic, lock codes, replenishment triggers, inventory history and operational reporting. Participants also learn how Oracle WMS Cloud integrates inventory transactions with Oracle Fusion Cloud SCM.

Teaching combines instructor demonstrations with guided work in a training environment and warehouse-based case exercises. Participants process realistic receipt, putaway, replenishment, count and exception scenarios; interpret transaction history; and decide which corrective action preserves both service levels and inventory integrity. They leave with a completed Inventory Control Playbook containing count rules, exception decision paths, adjustment controls, role responsibilities, KPI definitions and a 30-day application plan that can be adapted to their own site.

Requirements and prerequisites

Participants should have practical experience of warehouse operations, including receiving, putaway, picking, replenishment, cycle counting and stock adjustments. They should understand basic inventory concepts such as on-hand quantity, available quantity, location, LPN, lot, serial number, inventory status and variance. Familiarity with navigating Oracle WMS Cloud or Oracle Fusion Cloud SCM is helpful, although configuration expertise is not assumed. Participants need access to a laptop for the live online format and should be comfortable working with browser-based enterprise applications. SQL, software development, Oracle certification and prior experience with BI Publisher are not required.

Training methodology

The course is delivered through instructor-led explanations, live Oracle WMS Cloud demonstrations and hands-on exercises in a configured training environment. Each day uses a warehouse scenario involving specific items, locations, LPNs, inventory statuses and operational constraints. Participants work individually and in small groups to complete transactions, analyse audit trails, agree corrective actions and defend their control decisions. Facilitated reviews connect system settings to warehouse outcomes such as record accuracy, replenishment availability and adjustment risk. The final workshop converts learning into a practical Inventory Control Playbook and 30-day implementation plan.

Day 1: Oracle WMS Cloud inventory foundations

  • Oracle WMS Cloud inventory architecture and transaction lifecycle
  • Item, facility, company and warehouse inventory relationships
  • Location types, zones, capacities and location inventory records
  • LPN structure, contents management and nested LPN controls
  • On-hand, available, allocated, reserved and unavailable inventory quantities
  • Inventory attributes including batch, lot, serial, expiry and user-defined fields
  • Inventory statuses, lock codes and stock eligibility rules

Workshop: Participants map a sample warehouse's inventory states and configure a control matrix showing which statuses and locations may receive, allocate, move or ship stock.

Day 2: Receiving, putaway and controlled stock movement

  • Receipt confirmation and inventory creation from inbound shipments
  • Receiving discrepancies, overages, shortages and damaged stock handling
  • Directed putaway logic using location rules and capacity constraints
  • LPN moves, location transfers and inventory transfer transactions
  • Lot, serial and expiry capture during inbound processing
  • Task management for putaway, movement and inventory exceptions
  • Transaction history and audit records for movement traceability

Workshop: Using a receiving exception case, participants receive mixed stock, create controlled LPNs, resolve damaged quantity and trace every resulting inventory transaction.

Day 3: Cycle counting and physical inventory governance

  • ABC classification and risk-based count-frequency design
  • Directed cycle count generation by item, location, LPN and trigger event
  • Count tasks, blind counts, recounts and count confirmation workflows
  • Count tolerances, variance thresholds and approval routing
  • Physical inventory preparation, freeze controls and count execution
  • Inventory adjustment reason codes and segregation-of-duties considerations
  • Root-cause analysis for recurring count variance patterns

Workshop: Participants design a cycle count policy, generate count work and process a variance through recount, approval, adjustment and root-cause documentation.

Day 4: Replenishment, exceptions and inventory visibility

  • Forward-pick and reserve location inventory control principles
  • Min-max, demand-driven and task-based replenishment methods
  • Replenishment triggers, allocation dependencies and short-pick prevention
  • Inventory status changes for quality hold, quarantine and release
  • Expired, blocked, damaged and non-conforming inventory workflows
  • Inventory inquiry screens and operational exception queues
  • Inventory history analysis for discrepancy and service-impact investigation

Workshop: Participants resolve a forward-pick stockout by analysing demand, status and reserve inventory, then create and validate the appropriate replenishment and exception actions.

Day 5: Reporting, controls and site application

Frequently asked questions

You should understand normal warehouse processes and basic inventory terminology, and some experience navigating Oracle WMS Cloud is helpful. The course does not assume that you can configure the application or write reports, but it moves quickly beyond introductory navigation.

A laptop is required for live online attendance and recommended for classroom delivery. A training environment is used for exercises, so participants do not need access to their employer's Oracle WMS Cloud instance or live operational data.

It is best for inventory control managers, warehouse leaders, analysts, Oracle WMS Cloud super users and systems analysts responsible for stock accuracy and warehouse transaction controls. It is not primarily a course for first-time warehouse operatives or Oracle technical developers.
