Course overview
SAP Extended Warehouse Management configuration determines whether warehouse processes are controlled consistently or rely on manual workarounds, local knowledge and spreadsheet tracking. Professionals responsible for warehouse transformation must be able to translate operational requirements—such as putaway rules, picking routes, replenishment triggers, handling-unit control and physical inventory—into SAP EWM settings that work with S/4HANA logistics documents. This course addresses the practical gap between knowing warehouse operations and configuring the system behaviour that directs warehouse teams, stock and equipment.
Participants configure the core SAP EWM building blocks used in inbound, internal and outbound processing. They define warehouse organisational structures, storage types, sections and bins; set up work centres, warehouse process types, storage type search sequences and putaway/removal strategies; create warehouse order creation rules, queues and resources; and configure replenishment, physical inventory, handling units, waves and process-oriented storage control. The course also covers EWM integration points with SAP S/4HANA, including delivery documents, stock types, availability groups and monitoring of queues and errors.
Delivery combines instructor-led configuration demonstrations with guided work in an SAP EWM training environment. Participants use realistic warehouse scenarios to configure a distribution warehouse, test inbound and outbound flows, analyse failed documents and refine settings against operating requirements. They leave with an EWM configuration workbook containing organisational design decisions, key configuration values, process-flow mappings, test cases and a prioritised implementation action plan that can be adapted for their own site.
The programme is designed for SAP functional consultants, warehouse process owners, supply chain analysts and implementation team members who need practical configuration capability from foundation through intermediate level.

Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should understand basic warehouse operations, including goods receipt, putaway, picking, packing, replenishment, stock transfers and physical inventory. Familiarity with SAP navigation, master data concepts and S/4HANA logistics documents is helpful, particularly material masters, purchase orders, inbound deliveries and outbound deliveries. Prior SAP EWM configuration experience is not required; the course starts with the EWM organisational model and progresses into intermediate settings. Participants do not need ABAP programming, BASIS administration, MFS engineering or prior RF configuration knowledge. Complete beginners should expect a technically focused week with guided system exercises and configuration terminology.
Training methodology
Each day alternates short instructor-led configuration briefings with guided work in SAP EWM. Participants model a distribution warehouse, enter selected settings, execute inbound and outbound documents, and inspect the resulting warehouse requests, tasks and orders. Case discussions compare alternative design choices for storage search, task grouping, replenishment and inventory counting. Small-group workshops use operational requirements to build configuration decisions and test scripts. The final session is an application-planning workshop in which participants review their configuration workbook, identify local gaps and sequence next steps for a site or project.

Day 1: EWM architecture and warehouse foundation
- SAP EWM deployment models and SAP S/4HANA integration architecture

- Availability groups, stock types and stock ownership concepts
- Product master warehouse data and storage-type assignment

Workshop: Configure the organisational model for a distribution warehouse and produce a warehouse layout and master-data dependency map.
Day 2: Inbound processing and putaway control
- Inbound delivery processing and delivery-based warehouse requests
- Warehouse process type determination for goods receipt activities
- Putaway control indicators and storage type search sequences
- Putaway strategies for fixed bins, empty bins and addition to existing stock
- Work centre configuration for deconsolidation, packing and quality activities
- Handling units, packaging specifications and nested packing structures
- Process-oriented storage control for staged inbound activities
Workshop: Configure and test an inbound delivery flow with deconsolidation, handling-unit processing and rule-based putaway, then document the test results.
Day 3: Outbound execution, picking and warehouse orders

Workshop: Design a multi-step outbound process, configure task grouping and wave release, and produce a tested picking-to-staging process map.
Day 4: Internal warehouse processes and inventory control
- Replenishment methods for fixed-bin, planned and order-related replenishment
- Posting changes and stock-type transitions in EWM
- Ad hoc warehouse tasks and internal stock transfers
- Physical inventory procedures, document creation and count entry
- Cycle counting indicators and inventory frequency configuration
- Scrapping, blocking and exception-code processing
- Resource, queue and RF execution concepts for internal work
Workshop: Configure a replenishment and cycle-counting scenario, execute the relevant warehouse tasks and create an inventory exception report.
Day 5: Integration, monitoring and implementation readiness
- SAP S/4HANA delivery and stock integration touchpoints
- qRFC queue monitoring and common integration failure patterns
- EWM warehouse management monitor navigation and document tracing
- Configuration transport strategy and environment dependencies
- Master-data readiness checks for product, batch and handling-unit processes

Workshop: Troubleshoot a set of failed warehouse scenarios and complete an EWM configuration workbook with test scripts, risks and a site implementation action plan.
