Course overview
Sales organisations depend on pipeline data to decide where managers should intervene, how much capacity is required, and whether revenue targets are achievable. Yet many Salesforce pipelines contain stale opportunities, inconsistent stages, weak close dates and forecasts based on individual judgement rather than evidence. This course addresses the operational problem directly: participants learn to turn Salesforce opportunity data into a governed pipeline, measurable sales activity and forecasts that leaders can explain, challenge and act on.
Participants work through the Salesforce Sales Cloud processes that support reliable pipeline management: opportunity stages, sales paths, required fields, probability, close-date discipline, pipeline inspection, forecast categories, quotas and forecast submissions. They learn to design meaningful reports and dashboards, identify coverage gaps, distinguish pipeline value from weighted value, analyse stage conversion and ageing, and conduct manager-led forecast reviews. The course also covers data-quality controls, duplicate and inactive opportunity risks, forecast adjustments, collaborative forecasting and practical governance routines.
Delivery combines instructor demonstrations in Salesforce with guided configuration exercises, sales-manager scenarios and structured analysis of sample opportunity data. Participants create a pipeline management and forecasting playbook for their own team or a supplied business case. The deliverable includes defined stage exit criteria, report and dashboard requirements, forecast-review agenda, inspection questions, data-quality rules and escalation actions. This gives both the attendee and their manager a usable operating framework rather than a set of isolated Salesforce features.
The course is suited to sales managers, operations specialists, CRM users and commercial leaders who need to improve forecast confidence without requiring advanced Salesforce development skills. It is especially valuable where teams use Salesforce but lack common definitions, consistent inspection habits or a repeatable forecasting cadence.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Configure opportunity stages, sales paths and stage-exit criteria in Salesforce Sales Cloud
- Apply close-date, probability and forecast-category rules to maintain credible opportunity records
- Build pipeline coverage, ageing and stage-conversion reports using Salesforce Reports
- Create sales-manager dashboards that expose pipeline gaps, slippage and forecast risk
- Use Collaborative Forecasts to submit forecasts, compare quotas and record adjustments
- Conduct a structured pipeline inspection using evidence-based opportunity questions
- Calculate weighted pipeline, coverage ratios and forecast variance for a sales territory
- Produce a pipeline management and forecasting playbook for an assigned sales team
Benefits of attending
For you
- Run a defensible opportunity inspection using Salesforce evidence rather than rep assurances
- Build portfolio-quality Salesforce pipeline dashboards for sales-management discussions
- Explain the difference between pipeline, weighted pipeline, best case, commit and closed revenue
- Gain practical credibility for sales operations, revenue operations or frontline sales-management roles
- Leave with a reusable forecasting playbook that can be adapted to a current territory or team
For your organisation
- Improves forecast reliability through common definitions for stages, close dates, probabilities and forecast categories
- Reduces revenue surprises by exposing stale opportunities, insufficient coverage and late-stage slippage earlier
- Creates repeatable manager inspection routines instead of relying on subjective pipeline reviews
- Gives leadership dashboards and reports that connect quota attainment, pipeline health and forecast risk
- Strengthens Salesforce data governance through clear field ownership, validation expectations and escalation actions
Target competencies
Who should attend
- Sales Managers — who need to inspect opportunities and defend team forecasts with evidence
- Sales Operations Managers — who establish pipeline definitions, reporting standards and forecast cadence
- Account Executives — who manage opportunities in Salesforce and must provide credible commit forecasts
- Revenue Operations Specialists — who align Salesforce data, quota reporting and commercial decision-making
- CRM Administrators — who support sales-process configuration, data quality and reporting requirements
- Sales Directors — who need consistent visibility of coverage, risk and forecast accuracy across teams
Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should be comfortable using a web browser and navigating standard Salesforce Sales Cloud records, particularly accounts, contacts and opportunities. Familiarity with their organisation’s sales stages, territory structure, quota terminology and routine sales forecast is helpful. Participants should be able to interpret basic percentages and work with simple tables of sales data. No Salesforce certification, coding, Apex, API knowledge or advanced administrator experience is required. Complete beginners can attend, but should expect to spend time learning core opportunity and reporting navigation before moving into pipeline analysis and forecasting exercises.
Training methodology
The instructor demonstrates each process in Salesforce Sales Cloud before participants apply it in a guided sandbox or structured case environment. Short teaching sessions establish the sales-management method; hands-on work then uses opportunity records, forecast submissions, reports and dashboards to identify risk and make decisions. Teams compare pipeline inspection findings, challenge forecast assumptions and agree intervention actions for a simulated sales organisation. On day five, each participant converts the exercises into a practical pipeline and forecasting playbook for their own role, team or business unit.
