Course overview
Finance teams are expected to close faster, explain performance sooner, and maintain auditable controls while operating across multiple entities, currencies, legacy systems, and reporting deadlines. SAP S/4HANA changes the finance operating model through the Universal Journal, embedded analytics, real-time postings, and Fiori-based workflows, but value is lost when teams treat the platform as a technical replacement for ECC. This course helps finance and transformation professionals connect S/4HANA capabilities to practical outcomes: shorter close cycles, reconciled management reporting, stronger governance, and better decisions from operational and financial data.
Participants examine how SAP S/4HANA Finance supports record-to-report, procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, asset accounting, treasury, planning, consolidation, and profitability analysis. They learn to interpret the Universal Journal and ACDOCA data model; navigate finance applications in SAP Fiori; design finance process improvements; use embedded analytics and SAP Analytics Cloud reporting; and assess the role of Central Finance in phased transformation programmes. The course also addresses master data, integration dependencies, security roles, controls, migration considerations, and finance KPI design.
Instructor-led demonstrations are paired with structured exercises in an SAP S/4HANA learning environment and a running transformation case. Participants map a current-state finance process, identify pain points and control risks, configure a target-state workflow concept, and build a finance transformation roadmap. They leave with a completed S/4HANA Digital Finance Transformation Blueprint containing process priorities, target capabilities, KPI measures, data and integration dependencies, risks, and a sequenced implementation action plan.
The course is suited to finance leaders, accountants, analysts, SAP functional consultants, project managers, and digital transformation specialists who need a business-led understanding of SAP S/4HANA Finance rather than purely technical system administration.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the Universal Journal and ACDOCA data model in relation to general ledger, controlling, asset and profitability postings
- Navigate SAP Fiori finance applications to review transactions, exceptions, approvals and real-time financial information
- Map record-to-report, procure-to-pay and order-to-cash processes into an S/4HANA target-state process design
- Define finance transformation KPIs for close performance, working capital, controls, profitability and forecast accuracy
- Create embedded analytics requirements using CDS views, Fiori analytical apps and operational reporting use cases
- Assess when SAP Central Finance is appropriate for harmonising data across ECC and S/4HANA source systems
- Identify master data, integration, security and migration risks that affect an S/4HANA Finance implementation
- Produce a Digital Finance Transformation Blueprint with priorities, dependencies, governance actions and phased roadmap
Benefits of attending
For you
- Build the confidence to discuss Universal Journal, Fiori, embedded analytics and Central Finance with SAP delivery teams

For your organisation
- Improve finance-process design by aligning S/4HANA features with measurable close, reporting and working-capital objectives
- Reduce implementation rework through earlier identification of master data, integration, security and migration dependencies
- Strengthen financial control design by assessing approval workflows, exception handling and audit-trail requirements
- Support better investment decisions with a phased transformation roadmap rather than an undifferentiated ERP change backlog
- Increase adoption of real-time reporting and embedded analytics across finance, operational management and transformation teams
Target competencies
Who should attend
- Finance Transformation Managers — who must turn finance operating-model goals into S/4HANA-enabled change initiatives
- Finance Managers and Controllers — who need real-time reporting, stronger controls and faster close processes
- SAP S/4HANA Finance Consultants — who must translate finance requirements into workable functional designs
- Financial Analysts and FP&A Professionals — who need to use S/4HANA data and analytics for planning and performance insight
- ERP Programme and Project Managers — who coordinate finance workstreams, dependencies and implementation decisions
- Data and Digital Transformation Leads — who connect finance data, analytics and process automation across the enterprise
Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should understand core finance concepts including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cost centres, profit centres, month-end close and financial reporting. Experience with SAP ECC, SAP S/4HANA, or another ERP platform is useful but not mandatory; participants without SAP experience should expect a foundation-level introduction to navigation and finance process terminology before moving into intermediate transformation topics. No ABAP programming, Basis administration, system configuration experience, or prior SAP certification is required. A working familiarity with spreadsheet-based reporting and the ability to interpret basic financial statements will help participants contribute fully to the case exercises.
Training methodology
The five-day programme combines instructor-led finance transformation briefings with guided SAP S/4HANA demonstrations, individual system-navigation tasks, and team workshops. Participants work through a multi-entity organisation case involving fragmented reporting, slow close, inconsistent master data and legacy-system integration. Exercises use Fiori finance apps, Universal Journal reporting scenarios, KPI design templates and roadmap prioritisation tools. Facilitated reviews require participants to justify target-state choices against business value, controls, data readiness and delivery risk. The final session converts case findings into an actionable Digital Finance Transformation Blueprint.
