Course overview
Employee Central administrators are expected to keep employee data accurate while supporting changing organisational structures, job designs, compensation relationships, and local HR requirements. Poorly controlled foundation objects, event reasons, workflows, and role-based permissions can produce incorrect records, delayed approvals, privacy exposure, and downstream payroll or reporting issues. This course equips HR systems professionals to administer Employee Central with a clear understanding of how configuration choices affect daily HR transactions and data governance.
Participants work through the core administration areas of SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central: Admin Center, company and foundation data, employee data imports, business rules, event reasons, workflows, position management, and Role-Based Permissions. They learn to configure and test effective-dated records, maintain organisational objects, diagnose common transaction failures, use audit information, and prepare controlled data changes. The course also addresses practical integration touchpoints and the administration decisions that protect data quality across the employee lifecycle.
Instruction combines guided demonstrations in SAP SuccessFactors with scenario-based configuration exercises, peer review of design choices, and troubleshooting workshops. Participants build an Employee Central administration runbook containing configuration checklists, an event-reason map, workflow design, permission matrix, data-load validation steps, and an issue-resolution procedure. This deliverable can be adapted for use in an organisation's HR operations team after the course.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Configure effective-dated foundation objects and organisational data in SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central
- Maintain employee records using the correct HRIS elements, event reasons, and transaction sequences
- Build business rules that default, validate, or derive employee and organisational data
- Design approval workflows with appropriate contributors, routing conditions, and escalation controls
- Administer position management relationships, position hierarchies, and position-to-incumbent changes
- Apply Role-Based Permissions to control employee-data access and administrative actions
- Validate employee-data imports using templates, error logs, and pre-load quality checks
- Produce an Employee Central administration runbook for recurring changes and incident handling
Benefits of attending
For you
- Gain the confidence to administer Employee Central changes without relying on undocumented configuration knowledge
- Build evidence of practical capability in workflows, business rules, permissions, and data-quality controls
- Improve credibility with HR stakeholders by translating policy requirements into Employee Central settings
- Prepare to handle HRIS administrator and Employee Central support responsibilities more independently
- Create a reusable administration runbook that demonstrates disciplined operational practice
For your organisation
- Reduce employee-data errors through controlled effective-dated maintenance and import validation
- Shorten turnaround times for organisational, job, and employee lifecycle changes
- Strengthen privacy and segregation-of-duties controls through better Role-Based Permissions administration
- Decrease support escalations by giving administrators a repeatable method for diagnosing transaction failures
- Preserve configuration knowledge in a practical runbook rather than relying on individual staff memory
Target competencies
Who should attend
- SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Administrators — who maintain employee and organisational records after go-live
- HRIS Analysts — who translate HR policy changes into controlled system configuration
- HR Systems Administrators — who manage access, workflows, data loads, and operational support
- HR Operations Managers — who need reliable employee lifecycle transactions and approval controls
- SAP SuccessFactors Support Consultants — who investigate Employee Central configuration and transaction issues
- HR Transformation Project Team Members — who must prepare an organisation for Employee Central administration
Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have practical familiarity with core HR concepts, including organisational structures, employee lifecycle events, job information, approval processes, and confidential personnel data. Experience navigating SAP SuccessFactors and basic awareness of Employee Central terminology, such as foundation objects, effective dating, and event reasons, is strongly recommended. Participants should be able to interpret an HR policy or data-change request and work with spreadsheets for data validation. Prior SAP configuration experience, ABAP programming, SAP Integration Suite expertise, or payroll implementation knowledge is not required. This is not a first introduction to HR systems.
Training methodology
The five-day programme uses instructor-led demonstrations followed by guided work in SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central scenarios. Participants configure organisational and employee data, create rule and workflow logic, test role-based access, and interpret data-load and transaction errors. Case work reflects common HR operations requests such as reorganisations, transfers, manager changes, and approval exceptions. Small-group design reviews compare configuration options and control implications. On the final day, each participant assembles an administration runbook and application plan for a defined Employee Central operational responsibility.
