Course overview
Digital transformation programmes often stall because strategy, operating-model change, data priorities, cloud decisions and delivery portfolios are managed as separate initiatives. Enterprise architects and transformation leaders need a defensible way to connect executive outcomes to target capabilities, value streams, applications, data domains and technology roadmaps. This course applies the TOGAF Standard, 10th Edition, to that integration problem, helping participants turn broad transformation ambitions into governed architecture work packages and investment decisions.
Participants learn to use the TOGAF Architecture Development Method (ADM) for digital transformation: establishing architecture capability, framing the transformation vision, analysing baseline and target architectures, conducting gap analysis, and developing migration roadmaps. The course focuses on capability-based planning, stakeholder concerns, business scenarios, value-stream mapping, data architecture, cloud and platform architecture, and architecture governance. Participants practise selecting TOGAF deliverables and building blocks that give sponsors, product teams and portfolio leaders information they can act on.
Instruction combines guided TOGAF methods with a realistic transformation case involving legacy services, fragmented customer data and a move to cloud-enabled digital products. Working in teams, participants create an Architecture Vision, stakeholder map, capability heat map, target-state architecture views, gap analysis, and phased Implementation and Migration Plan. Each participant leaves with a reusable digital transformation architecture pack, an ADM-based work plan, and an application plan for their own organisation.
The course suits experienced IT, data, business and change professionals who already contribute to transformation initiatives and need to lead or govern architecture work across organisational boundaries.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Apply the TOGAF ADM to structure a digital transformation architecture engagement from Preliminary phase through Architecture Change Management
- Create an Architecture Vision that links strategic outcomes, measurable business value, stakeholders and transformation scope
- Develop capability maps and value-stream views to identify digital investment priorities and capability gaps
- Model baseline and target business, data, application and technology architectures using TOGAF content concepts and ArchiMate viewpoints
- Conduct gap analysis and define architecture building blocks, solution building blocks and transition architectures
- Produce an Implementation and Migration Plan with work packages, dependencies, sequencing and roadmap milestones
- Establish Architecture Governance including compliance reviews, architecture contracts, principles and decision rights
- Assemble a transformation architecture pack containing a statement of architecture work, target-state views, roadmap and risk register

Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have practical experience of IT, business change, data, application delivery or technology planning, and be comfortable discussing business processes, applications, integrations, data flows and cloud services. Familiarity with basic architecture concepts such as baseline versus target state, stakeholders, requirements and roadmaps is expected. Prior TOGAF certification is not required; the course explains the ADM, Enterprise Continuum and TOGAF content concepts as they are used. Participants do not need to be expert modellers or users of ArchiMate, Sparx Enterprise Architect or Archi, although prior exposure to any architecture repository or diagramming tool is helpful.
Training methodology
The instructor introduces each ADM phase through short, decision-focused sessions, then participants apply it to a digital transformation case. Teams use stakeholder maps, business scenarios, capability heat maps, ArchiMate-style architecture views, gap matrices and roadmap templates to progress from vision to migration planning. Facilitated reviews test assumptions, dependencies and governance choices against realistic executive and delivery-team concerns. On day five, participants consolidate their work into an architecture pack and produce a practical adoption plan identifying the first TOGAF deliverables, stakeholders and governance actions for their own transformation context.

Day 1: TOGAF foundations and transformation framing

- Digital transformation drivers, outcomes and measurable business value
- Preliminary phase architecture capability and governance setup
- Architecture principles for cloud, data, interoperability and customer experience
- Stakeholder management, concerns and communication viewpoints
- Architecture Vision and Statement of Architecture Work
Workshop: Teams frame a digital-service transformation engagement and produce an Architecture Vision, stakeholder map and initial Statement of Architecture Work.
Day 2: Business architecture and capability-led change
- TOGAF Phase B business architecture deliverables
- Business scenario technique for eliciting transformation requirements
- Capability-based planning and capability heat mapping
- Value-stream mapping for customer-facing digital services
- Operating-model impacts, organisation units and business functions
- Baseline and target business architecture views

Workshop: Participants develop a capability heat map and target value-stream view for a legacy service being redesigned as a digital product.
Day 3: Data, application and technology target architecture
- TOGAF Phases C and D architecture development
- Data domains, information concepts and master-data ownership

- Digital platform patterns including APIs, events and reusable services
- Cloud deployment models, landing zones and technology standards
- ArchiMate business, application and technology layer viewpoints

Day 4: Gap analysis, roadmaps and transformation investment
- TOGAF Phase E opportunities and solutions

- Implementation Factor Assessment and Deduction Matrix

- Roadmap prioritisation using value, risk, cost and dependency criteria
Workshop: Participants create a gap matrix, define transition architectures and produce a phased implementation roadmap with prioritised work packages.
Day 5: Governance, delivery assurance and organisational application

Workshop: Participants present a complete transformation architecture pack to a simulated Architecture Board and create a 90-day TOGAF application plan for their workplace.
