Course overview
Enterprise architecture teams are often asked to justify major technology investments, align delivery portfolios to business strategy, and reduce duplication across applications, data platforms and infrastructure. Without a repeatable architecture method, decisions can become driven by individual projects, undocumented assumptions or vendor roadmaps. This TOGAF Enterprise Architecture Foundation Training Course gives practitioners a structured way to define the current state, design target architectures, sequence change and govern delivery against agreed principles.
Participants work through the TOGAF Standard, 10th Edition, with emphasis on the Architecture Development Method (ADM). They learn to establish the architecture capability; identify stakeholders and concerns; develop business, data, application and technology architecture domains; create baseline and target views; conduct gap analysis; define Architecture Building Blocks and Solution Building Blocks; produce a roadmap; and apply governance. The course also introduces the TOGAF Content Metamodel, Enterprise Continuum, Architecture Repository, Architecture Landscape and the relationship between TOGAF and ArchiMate modelling.
Instruction combines guided teaching with a running enterprise transformation case. Participants build practical architecture artefacts rather than only reviewing terminology: an architecture vision, stakeholder map, principles catalogue, baseline-to-target gap assessment, candidate roadmap and governance approach. They leave with a completed TOGAF ADM application pack that can be adapted to a real architecture initiative, plus a clear method for framing architecture work with sponsors, product teams, delivery leads and suppliers.
The course is suited to experienced IT, digital and data professionals moving into enterprise or solution architecture responsibilities, as well as leaders who need to commission, govern or assess architecture work. It is equally useful where an organisation is standardising fragmented architecture practices or introducing a formal architecture function.

Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have practical experience of IT delivery, solution design, data, infrastructure, business analysis or technology change, and be comfortable discussing applications, integrations, data flows, cloud services and business requirements. Familiarity with basic architecture concepts such as current state, target state, stakeholders, requirements and roadmaps is helpful. Bring a laptop for live online attendance and for optional modelling exercises; no specialist software licence is required. Prior TOGAF study, ArchiMate knowledge, programming ability and formal enterprise architect experience are not required. Complete beginners to IT architecture should expect a demanding week and should review basic systems architecture terminology beforehand.
Training methodology
The five-day programme alternates instructor-led explanation of TOGAF concepts with short, structured architecture workshops. Using a single transformation case, participants define scope and stakeholders, draft views for each architecture domain, identify gaps, group work into transition architectures and test governance decisions. The instructor demonstrates how TOGAF artefacts connect, including catalogues, matrices, diagrams and repository assets, then critiques participant outputs against ADM intent. Each day closes with a practical artefact review, and the final session converts the case work into an application plan for a participant’s own architecture environment.

- Preliminary Phase activities and Architecture Board responsibilities

Workshop: Participants create an Architecture Vision and principles catalogue for a fictional enterprise transformation, including scope, sponsors, constraints and expected value.
Day 2: Stakeholders, content and business architecture
- Stakeholder Map Matrix, concerns and communication requirements
- Architecture viewpoints and views for different decision audiences
- TOGAF Content Metamodel entities, relationships and artefact types
- Business scenarios and business capability mapping
- Baseline and target business architecture development
- Business service, process, organisation and location catalogues
- Requirements Management process across the ADM cycle
Workshop: Participants build a stakeholder map, capability map and baseline-to-target business architecture view for the case organisation.
Day 3: Data, application and technology architecture

Day 4: Opportunities, migration planning and governance
