Course overview
Delayed incident reports, inconsistent classifications, incomplete investigations and disconnected risk registers make it difficult for health and safety teams to identify recurring hazards before they cause serious harm. This five-day VelocityEHS Incident Reporting and Risk Management Training Course helps practitioners turn incident data into controlled corrective action, defensible reporting and prioritised risk reduction. Participants learn how to configure and use structured workflows that support timely reporting, investigation, root-cause analysis and management review across sites, departments and contractor populations.
The course covers the VelocityEHS Incident Management and Risk Assessment capabilities used to capture injuries, near misses, unsafe conditions, environmental events and observations. Participants practise designing incident forms, applying severity and recordability logic, assigning investigations, documenting causal analysis, managing corrective and preventive actions, and linking incident findings to risk assessments. They also build dashboards and reports that distinguish leading from lagging indicators, reveal overdue actions and provide evidence for ISO 45001-aligned safety management processes and OSHA recordkeeping decisions.
Instructor-led demonstrations are followed by guided system exercises using realistic scenarios such as a contractor fall, chemical spill and repeated manual-handling near miss. Participants work through the complete workflow from initial notification to risk-control verification, using sample VelocityEHS data and reporting templates. By the end of the course, each participant leaves with a configured incident-to-risk workflow blueprint, including field requirements, investigation stages, action ownership rules, risk-rating criteria and a practical dashboard specification for their own organisation.

Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have practical familiarity with workplace incident reporting, hazard identification, corrective actions and basic risk-assessment terminology, including likelihood, consequence and controls. Experience using a web-based business system and navigating spreadsheets is expected. Attendees should ideally have access to a VelocityEHS training or sandbox environment, although instructor-provided exercises can be completed with demonstration data where access is unavailable. This is an intermediate course: prior expertise in VelocityEHS configuration is not required, and programming, database administration and advanced statistical analysis are not required. Participants should bring examples of their current incident categories or risk matrix if organisational application is planned.
Training methodology
The programme combines instructor-led explanation of incident and risk-management practice with live VelocityEHS demonstrations and guided configuration exercises. Participants use realistic EHS scenarios to enter reports, classify events, assign investigations, analyse causes, create actions and update risk assessments. Small-group workshops compare risk ratings and control choices, exposing the decision rules that improve consistency between sites. Each day closes with an applied task, and the final session converts course work into a tailored implementation plan covering workflow changes, data ownership, reporting cadence and control verification.
