Course overview
HSE teams depend on Enablon records to demonstrate that incidents, observations, audits, actions, permits, risks and environmental data are being controlled. When forms are poorly configured, roles are unclear, workflows stall or reports use inconsistent classifications, the organisation loses reliable visibility of exposure and overdue obligations. This course prepares administrators to maintain an Enablon HSE environment that supports operational reporting, audit evidence and accountable follow-up across sites, contractors and business units.
Participants learn how Enablon HSE Management is structured and how to administer key configuration elements without weakening data quality or governance. They work with organisational hierarchies, user roles, reference data, form fields, classifications, workflow stages, notifications, action plans and dashboards. The course applies these capabilities to core HSE processes: incident and near-miss reporting, corrective and preventive actions, inspections, audits, risk assessments, and environmental or compliance-related records. Participants also learn to test configuration changes, manage controlled updates and produce reports that answer practical management questions.
Delivery combines instructor-led demonstrations with guided work in a training environment and realistic HSE administration scenarios. Each participant configures a controlled incident-to-action workflow, builds supporting reference data and permissions, tests the process using sample records, and creates a reporting specification for managers. They leave with an Enablon HSE administration workbook containing a configuration map, role matrix, workflow design, test cases, governance checklist and 90-day application plan.
The programme suits HSE systems administrators, process owners and analysts who need practical control of an Enablon implementation, as well as HSE professionals moving into a system-administration responsibility. It is equally useful for managers sponsoring platform adoption who need staff able to translate HSE process requirements into maintainable Enablon configuration.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Configure organisational hierarchies, site structures and user access roles for controlled HSE record ownership
- Build and maintain reference data sets for incident classifications, action categories, risk ratings and audit findings
- Design form fields, validation rules and mandatory-data controls for HSE reporting processes
- Map and configure workflow stages, approvals, escalations and notifications for incident-to-action management
- Administer corrective-action plans with owners, due dates, verification steps and overdue-status controls
- Create role-based reports and dashboard specifications using Enablon HSE data fields and performance measures
- Test configuration changes through documented test cases, exception scenarios and user-acceptance criteria
- Produce an Enablon administration workbook covering governance, configuration decisions and change-control actions
Benefits of attending
For you
- Gain practical evidence of ability to administer Enablon HSE processes rather than only operate end-user screens
- Build a reusable configuration and testing workbook for discussions with internal IT, HSE leaders and implementation partners
- Learn to diagnose common causes of incomplete HSE records, stalled approvals and unreliable action status
- Strengthen credibility as the link between HSE process owners and Enablon technical or support teams
- Prepare to take on responsibilities for HSE platform governance, release testing and controlled change management
For your organisation
- Improve consistency of incident, action, inspection and audit records through controlled forms and reference data
- Reduce overdue corrective actions by using defined ownership, escalation and verification workflows
- Provide managers with more dependable HSE reporting based on agreed classifications and data-quality checks
- Lower implementation and change risk through documented role matrices, test cases and configuration governance
- Retain internal capability to administer routine Enablon HSE changes without relying on ad hoc workarounds
Target competencies
Who should attend
- Enablon HSE System Administrators — who configure users, forms, workflows and reference data for operational teams
- HSE Managers — who need dependable incident, action, audit and risk information across sites
- HSE Data and Reporting Analysts — who translate HSE records into controlled metrics and management reports
- EHS Process Owners — who must convert process requirements into workable Enablon configurations
- HSE Compliance and Assurance Managers — who require auditable evidence of inspections, findings and corrective actions
- Implementation Project Team Members — who support Enablon rollout, testing, data readiness and user adoption
Requirements and prerequisites
This is a foundation-to-intermediate administration course. Participants should understand basic HSE concepts such as incidents, near misses, corrective actions, inspections, audits, risk assessments and responsible ownership. Familiarity with their organisation’s HSE processes and basic spreadsheet use is helpful, particularly for reviewing lists and validating data, but prior Enablon administration experience is not required. A complete beginner can attend and should expect a structured introduction to Enablon terminology before progressing to configuration exercises. Coding, database administration, API development and prior knowledge of SQL are not required.
Training methodology
The five-day programme uses short instructor demonstrations followed by guided configuration work in an Enablon training environment. Participants apply each feature to a connected HSE scenario: an incident creates findings, actions require verification, and management needs an overdue-action view. Case discussions examine practical design choices such as local versus corporate classifications, delegated ownership and escalation rules. Small-group reviews test each design against auditability and usability. On the final day, participants consolidate their work into an administration workbook and prioritised 90-day application plan for their own Enablon environment.
Course outline
Day 1: Enablon HSE administration foundations
- Enablon HSE Management architecture and administrative scope
- Navigation of configuration areas and record life cycles
- Organisational hierarchies, entities, sites and reporting ownership
- User accounts, groups, roles and access-control principles
- HSE process mapping for incidents, actions, inspections and audits
- Configuration governance, naming conventions and documentation standards
- Sandbox, test and production environment responsibilities
Workshop: Participants map a sample multi-site HSE operating model and produce an initial Enablon role matrix with record ownership and access decisions.
Day 2: Forms, classifications and data quality
- Form design principles for incident and near-miss reporting
- Field types, conditional fields and mandatory-data requirements
- Validation logic and data-entry error prevention
- Reference data administration for event types, consequences and causes
- Risk matrices, severity scales and likelihood classifications
- Controlled lists for action categories, audit findings and inspection outcomes
- Data-quality checks for duplicate, incomplete and misclassified records
Workshop: Participants configure a sample incident form and its classification lists, then test the form against incomplete and incorrectly classified submissions.
Day 3: Workflow and corrective-action control
- Workflow design from event reporting through closure
- Status values, transitions and role-based approval stages
- Assignment rules for investigations, findings and action owners
- Notification templates, reminders and escalation triggers
- Corrective and preventive action plan administration
- Due dates, extensions, evidence attachments and verification controls
- Workflow exception handling for reassignment, rejection and reopened actions
Workshop: Participants build and test an incident-to-corrective-action workflow that produces owner notifications, overdue escalation and closure verification.
Day 4: HSE reporting, assurance and controlled change
- Report requirements for operational, site and executive audiences
- Selection of report fields, filters, groupings and date parameters
- Dashboard measures for incidents, actions, audits and risk trends
- Overdue-action, closure-rate and recurring-event analysis
- Audit trails, record history and evidence-retention requirements
- Configuration change requests, impact assessment and approval records
- User-acceptance testing plans and regression-testing scenarios
Workshop: Participants create a reporting specification for a monthly HSE review and write test cases for a proposed workflow and form change.
Day 5: Administration operating model and application planning
- Daily, monthly and quarterly Enablon administration routines
- Reference-data change governance and ownership
- Access reviews, role recertification and segregation-of-duties checks
